Relay for Life of Second Life is back and it's bigger and better than ever! This year's theme is '"Wishing On A Cure."

Teams' registration opened preparation for fundraising from March to July, culminating in a 24-hour walk on July 17-18 around a virtual track.

MetaMeets, Europe's premier 3D Internet developer and community conference, comes to Dublin, Ireland, in 2010.

The conference opens just as the movie "Avatar" has become a spectacular introduction to the idea of virtual environments.

The conference, like the movie, is a bridge for the public to see what's possible in a way that begins to draw them to virtual as well as real life. MetaMeets 2010 follows its successful inaugural conference last year in Amsterdam, Holland.

One thing the Second Life residents seem to excel at is fund raising. Over the years, residents have raised huge quantities of real life cash for all sorts of charitable reasons.

Some of these are regular events, such as the hugely successful Relay for Life, while others are one off events done in response to a crisis somewhere around the globe. Perhaps the most successful of these was the response to Hurricane Katrina, which resulted in the creation of the Biloxi and Big Easy sims.
